Tesco as a brand needs no introduction in the UK as it is the largest retailer there. But still even with its dominant market position, recent years have not been good for the UK grocery retail giant. Right now, Tesco has posted huge losses and it would take a mammoth effort to steer it out of this mess. It also faces increased competition from the likes of convenience stores and big German discount super market chains. But still it would be unwise to write the obituary for Tesco as this is a brand that has adopted some stellar management practices that made it the retail super power that it is today. The strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities for the brand is analysed in short in this study and the management of Tesco could do well to pay attention to these and the recommendations provided therein. This study analyses the current position of Tesco and offers insights into what are the remedial measures that would help to get it out of its current financial mess and also improve as a retailing behemoth.
