The palace has remained as the primary residence of the Ottoman Sultans for approximately 400 years. The divan building is situated in the northwest corner of the courtyard arcade, and is comprised of three large domes halls, with an L shaped portico. The first one is the Council chamber, the second one is the public records office, and the third is the office of the Grand Vizier. The Sultan used the three halls and provided important decisions in the office of the Grand Vizier. I think the design of these domed shaped halls represented the magnanimity of the rulers in those times with the type of size and quality of details that went into the making of those halls. These had to be important because it was the divan building or the council hall where all the business matters of the dynasty were being discussed. The experience of the halls seen reminded me of the unimaginable lifestyles of the Sultan and how they ran the empire. The intricate details about the wall paintings, grand chandelier, the above average height of the domed halls, and the connection with nature with a beautiful garden outside the court tells the exquisite operations of the empire with undeniable justice.
