EL Nino is defined as a climatic array due to which the temperature of the water surface raises in an unusual manner at the humid west seashore of South America. The ocean heat, rapidity and the power of the ocean waves and the health of seaside fisheries are influenced by EL Nino (Cob et al, 2013). EL Nino had its influence on weather from Australia to South America. There was no systematic pattern for EL Nino to occur and hence it was not possible to predict them. As the time passed, the scientists observed that the changes in the climate became more intense which also included many other climatic events and not just the warming of water surface.
Later a team of scientists observed that the EL Nino used to take place along with the Southern Oscillations. The southern oscillations are defined as the alteration in the atmospheric density above the hot eastern and western Pacific Ocean. When the waters at the seashores at eastern tropical pacific also known as EL Nino becomes hot, the density of the atmosphere decreases at eastern pacific and raises at western pacific. This is known as Southern Oscillation and hence scientist gave the name EL Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) to the whole process (Earnest et al, 2012).
In order to understand the impact of EL Nino events, it is important to know about a process known as an upwelling. In this process, as per the effect of hot winds, the water surface is .5meters and 8 degree centigrade more warn in Indonesia in comparison to Ecuador. The warm water moves towards the west which results in the rise and movement of cooler water near the surface besides the coasts of Ecuador, Peru, and Chile. Due to this process of upwelling the separation level of hot surface and the cold surface of water uplifts. As the result of this effect the cold water which has good number nutrients like nitrates and phosphates uplifts up to euphotic zone which is the higher level of the sea. With the help of these nutrients, small organisms go for photosynthesis and produce food for them.
